Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the name “Twig & Moth” come from?

The name includes both flora & fauna, which are the subjects of most of my work (as I dearly love the natural world).

How did you learn to watercolor?

I am pretty much self-taught. My short stint as an art major in college did not even touch on watercolor. I used a few good books (now there is YouTube!) along with lots of experimenting.

What do you use, and where do you buy your art supplies?

( * Update! I have written a post going into much more detail for this answer. ) I have a partial list of some of the things I use on Amazon, but I order most of my paints from Dick Blick. I use an assortment of artist grade paints with some of my favorite brands being Winsor & Newton, Dick Blick and Daniel Smith.

How can I encourage my child’s artistic inclinations?

Simply provide them with a few decent materials and the freedom to express themselves! There are some really great YouTube videos out there aimed at beginning adults and kids on the topics of both drawing and painting. If you really want to give them a confidence boost, consider scanning and uploading some of their artwork to a print on demand platform such as Redbubble or Society6 (you can opt to keep the listing private), and order a coffee mug, t-shirt, etc with their art on it. We have done this a few times and it is always worth it to see the look on the child’s face. :)

What homeschooling methods do you use?

We use a mix of things that has evolved over the 19+ years of schooling at home, but mostly what we do looks like the Charlotte Mason method of learning. We try to stay flexible and open to new ideas, especially if a particular curriculum or book is not working for a child. So far, I have homeschooled through highschool, but I do believe in listening carefully to the desires of the older child and looking at all possible options.

Do you take custom orders?

At this time, I do not. Between homeschooling and my illustration work, I simply do not have the time. But suggestions for future shop items are always welcome!

Will you illustrate my book?

Between homeschooling and my illustration work, I just don’t have the time to devote to custom illustration work.

Can I re-post your pictures, etc?

Absolutely! Simply give proper credit and provide a link back to the site.

Are you available for speaking at homeschool conferences, etc?

No, not at this time.

Will you donate items for my homeschool conference or charity auction?

Maybe! Please send inquires via the contact form or drop me an email.

You are out of a particular item in your shop, when will it be restocked?

Send me a message and I will get back to you ASAP. Usually, out of stock items are back within a week or two.

Will you mention my product on Instagram if I send you a sample?

Probably not. Unless it is something we would truly use for homeschooling or artwork.

Where are you located? Can I come by your studio?

We live in South Louisiana, but I work out of our home and do not have a separate studio space at this time.
